The Long Way Here
Do Phan Hoi is a Vietnamese-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Montréal whose practice moves between street dance, photography, and screendance. Rooted in the city's street dance and contemporary art scenes since 2007, he trained as an autodidact artist before earning a degree in engineering at ÉTS — a trajectory that shapes his creative work: rigorous, precise, and built for real impact. He leads the Canadian chapter of Funny Bones Crew, the Los Angeles-based collective, a role that reflects both his standing in the international street dance community and his commitment to building bridges across it.
His work has been presented at Tangente, JOAT Festival, Festival TransAmériques, International Festival of Films on Arts and Place des Arts, and spans choreography, documentary film, and visual exhibition.
In 2025, he served as the RQD's International Dance Day Ambassador and represented Canada as a photographer at World Expo 2025 in Osaka — two recognitions that speak to the full range of his practice.
Running through everything is a personal conviction that art and education belong together — that the most powerful thing a practice can do is make itself accessible, and go to meet the community it comes from.
